Hiking Recommendations

"Campanili del Latemar"

 
An easy-going stone path crosses the southern side of the Latemar from West to East. The path ends at the large cleft of the Latemar (2650 m - Biv. Rigatti). It connects with the normal route, path No. 18 and climbing route to the Latemar peak (2800 m).

Auf'n Sam

Obereggen - Parking Bewaller - Auf'n Sam - Grotthof - Eggen - Obereggen

ca. 10 km - 4,5 hours
 
Marvellous round wandering with pleasant road course. From Obereggen on the way 10 to the Bewallerhof. After the court on the mark "Samweg" to the Häusler Sam (stop possibility) and further to the Grotthof. From there over mark "Samweg" further after Eggen or descending to the Kobhof. From there over mark 7 after Eggen and further on mark 10 back after Obereggen.

Duration of walk: 4-5 hours
Degree of difficulty: severe wandering over forest streets and meadows
 

Auf'n Sam (plateau)

Gamsstallscharte – Latemarhütte

Nova Ponente - station of Oberholz - Gamsstallscharte - path 506 - Latemar refuge - path 22 - Meier farmstead - station of Oberholz - Nova Ponente

Duration of walk: around 5-7 hours
 
The Gamstallscharte is one of the classic Gipfeltouren between the cliffs of the Latemar, that will give you the opportunity to visit incomparable refuges where you can rest. This hike, suitable for walking enthusiasts and experienced walkers, offers an easy opportunity to access the bizarre world of Felsen. Take the chairlift and head from Nova Ponente to the station above Oberholz. A narrow footpath will take you from here, on the Gamsstallscharte, up the Valsordakessel until you reach footpath no. 506, which to the right leads to the Latemar refuge (1 hour). Follow path no. 22 you can return to the Meier farmstead and to the chairlift in 1 hour or you can choose the footpath for the Ganischger Almund, returning then to Nova Ponente on footpath no. 9 (2 hours).

High altitude hike to the Rosengarten

Karerpass - Paolina refuge - Ostertag refuge - Karerpass

Duration of walk: around 4 hours - Difficulty: from easy to averagely difficult
 
Enjoy this exceptional high altitude hike! The incredible thing is that it is almost all downhill, with hardly any uphill slopes! You are asking how this is possible? The answer is simple: go by car to the Karerpass, where the chairlift departs that will take you to the Paolina refuge at an altitude of 2125 m. From there you walk on level ground for around 1 hour under the majestic cliffs of the Rosengarten until you reach the Ostertag refuge. Stop here for a rest and to admire the view, before returning to your starting point passing through meadows and almost always going downhill (around 2 hours).

Kesselkogel

 
The Kesselkogel (3004 m) is the highest point of the Rosengarten group, and is considered one of the most beautiful panorama points of the Dolomites. In addition, the point of the Kesselkogel can be reached from either the western or eastern ascent. The eastern path is considered somewhat more difficult, but with ladders and well-secured wire cables, it can be mastered without great difficulty.

Laabalm 1649 m

To the south-west of Nova Ponente, in a delightful, peaceful location, we invite you to stop at the Laab shepherd’s hut, where you will also find a small restaurant. To reach here, walk along the Daumstrasse (1), along the Laabweg (1) and partly walking on the main road, slightly uphill (around 300 m in altitude). You can also get to the Laab hut by car (2 km). Closed on Mondays.The Laab hut is also a departure point for marvellous hikes and walks, for example to the Neuhütt hut, the Jochgrimm, the Weisshorn, Pietralba, and Lavazé.

Laurenzi

 
The Laurenzi fixed cable climbing route leads through the high alpine area between Tierser Alpl and Antermoja. Facing north, you can see the steep breaches in the green Durontal and the distant high plain of the Seiser Alm, on the south, the stupendous scenery of the Kesselkogel Rosengarten and the Pala group up to the queen to dolomites, the Marmolada (3343 m).

Masarè

 
This climbing route is south of the Rotwand climbing route, and leads to the Rotwand cabin in the direction of Fensterleturm across the Teufelswand (ca. 2700 m) up to Masarè point, (2585 m), followed by a descent to the Rotwand cabin.

On the Weisshorn

Jochgrimm - Siei summit - Gurndin hut - Jochgrimm

Duration of walk: 3 hours - Degree of difficulty: steep but not difficult
 
The Weisshorn attracts visitors due to the amazing view that it has over the Brenta Paganella, the high Ortler massif, the Tessa group at Merano and naturally the Dolomites. An enchanting experience for all walking enthusiasts!To make this detour, calculate a slightly longer duration time up to the Jochgrimm. From here, only 320 metres in altitude separate you from the summit, the Siei, that you will reach after around half an hour’s steady walk uphill through meadows, larch woods and rocks. On the way back, you will pass in front of the Gurndin hut where you can get something to eat and drink.

On the Weißhorn (mountain wandering)
