Climbing
In places even the most rugged peaks can be reached along secured rock climbing routes, called Klettersteige in German and Vie Ferrate in Italian.
They were originally built and equipped with ropes, steps, stemples, ladders, bridges etc during World War One to enable soldiers to reach forward positions among the crags of the Dolomites in relative safety. Today they have been restored and upgraded to enable leisure climbers to access seemingly inaccessible places with spectacular views in safety and using their own climbing gear.
